Dollar General Stores seek licenses to sell carry out beer and wine
22 Dollar General Stores in Marion County, including two in Franklin Township are seeking liquor licenses to permit the sale of beer and wine. The dealer permits were purchased at a November 18 auction held by the State.
The hearing before the Marion County Liquor Board for the Dollar General Store at 8760 Southeastern Avenue (in Wanamaker) is scheduled for February 21st (rescheduled from January 17 due to lack of proper notice). The hearing for the store at 6120 E. Thompson Road is scheduled for February 6th. Both hearings will be held in Room 260 of the City County Building beginning at 9:30 a.m. Dollar General is being represented by the Jeff McKean Law Firm, which may be contacted at 524-6230.
The permits are currently being opposed on a county wide basis by Drug Free Marion County, based on information compiled by Nancy Beals concerning the current concentration and number of liquor licenses already existing in Marion County. Additionally, information has been compiled by the Nuisance Abatement Unit of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department documenting police runs to the various Dollar General locations for the last year.
About the Land Use Committee...
Franklin Township is one of the fastest growing areas of Marion County. As this growth continues, the Civic League's Land Use & Zoning Committee looks at land use and infrastructure in the township with a mind for the future. While there seem to be lots of "fields for pickin'," it's the duty of this committee to see that metropolitan development preserves and enhances the community's quality of life.
When zoning, building, development or infrastructure issues arise, the Land Use & Zoning Committee takes action on behalf of the League to inform and educate neighbors and businesses about matters relevant to the issues at hand. The Committee also helps residents understand and engage in land use and zoning processes.
This committee meets regularly on the third Wednesday of every month at 7pm at the Community Building in Wanamaker. These meetings are open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend.
